Danny Boy is a ballad written by English lawyer and pet Frederic Weatherly in Bath, 1910. It is usually song to the Irish tune called Londonderry Air. His sister-in-law Margaret sent him a copy of Londonderry Air in 1913; he then changed the lyrics of Danny boy to fit Londonderry Air.

Weatherly gave the song to singer Elsie Griffin who helped make it one of the most popular songs of the early 1900’s.

There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.
The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly's intent.

"Danny Boy" is considered to be an unofficial signature song by Irish Americans and Irish Canadians.
The song is popular for funerals. In 1928, Weatherly himself suggested that the second verse would provide a fitting requiem for the actress Ellen Terry.
A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room for Daddy).
"Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant's Causeway.
On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.

Written in Boston in 1857, this song is not only an American Christmas carol, but a distinctly New England one. Listening to the melody, you can almost hear the clop-clop of the horses' hooves and the ringing of sleigh bells. The composer, James S. Pierpont, wrote Jingle Bells for a Sunday school program, but the song's theme is secular, and in fact it's probably the first secular Christmas song composed in the U.S. Because sheet music versions often reference J. Pierpont as the author, the eighteenth-century Connecticut composer John Pierpont sometimes mistakenly gets credit for writing it.  Even though doesn't contain a single reference to Christmas, "Jingle Bells" is probably the world's most popular Christmas song.

Since you probably know the melody very well, this is a great song to try learning to fingerpick the melody. Playing the chorus (“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way”) is pretty easy because it stays in the first position.) Playing the verse (“Dashing through the snow) is a lot harder because of the necessary position shifts. Use the dots on the side of your ukulele’s fretboard to help you gauge the distances. Or only fingerpick the chorus and sing the verses.

Three LIttle Birds Ukulele - 21 Songs in 6 Days: Learn Ukulele the Easy Way

https://youtu.be/ScgE4PtXPh4 - Three Little Birds Ukulele

"Three Little Birds" is a song by Bob Marley and the Wailers. It is the fourth track on side two of their 1977 album Exodus and was released as a single in 1980. The song reached the Top 20 in the UK, peaking at number 17. It is one of Bob Marley's most popular songs. The song has been covered by numerous other artists.

The source of Bob Marley's inspiration for the lyrics of "Three Little Birds" remains disputed. They are partly inspired by birds that Marley was fond of, that used to fly and sit next to his home. Tony Gilbert, a long time friend of Marley, was present at the time he was writing the song and elaborated, "Bob got inspired by a lot of things around him, he observed life. I remember the three little birds. They were pretty birds, canaries, who would come by the windowsill at Hope Road.”

However, three female singers from the reggae group I Threes who did shows with Marley claim it is a reference to them. I Threes member Marcia Griffiths remarked, "After the song was written, Bob would always refer to us as the Three Little Birds. After a show, there would be an encore, sometimes people even wanted us to go back onstage four times. Bob would still want to go back and he would say, 'What is my Three Little Birds saying?'"

In 2015, Plymouth Argyle fans sang the song's chorus in a playoff match against Wycombe Wanderers. Plymouth Argyle were losing 3-0 with 10 minutes to go, but after the fans began singing, Zak Ansah and Jason Banton both scored goals and kept the Pilgrims playoff hopes alive.

Monty Alexander recorded a cover of "Three Little Birds" in January 1992 and, in 1999, he released it as a hit single. The Cover was also produced from him and unlike the original the Monty Alexander version is very Jazz-heavy. The original Length is 3:00.

"Three Little Birds" was released as the first single by British child singer, Connie Talbot on 10 June 2008. It was taken from the 2008 rerelease of her 2007 album,Over the Rainbow. Talbot released a music video to publicise the single, which was filmed in Jamaica. The release reached number 3 on the UK Independent Singles Chart, and number 1 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart in the United States. Talbot received attention from the British press because of the single's success, with the Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph attributing her success in America to her appeal to the Christian market, and to the success of her videos on YouTube. Talbot's father, Gavin, spoke about the song reaching number one, saying "When we received the phone call we were driving back from doing a round of radio interviews in London and Connie was asleep in the back of the car. When we told her she just took it in her stride. I just cannot believe that she is number one in America. We are all very proud of her. It is a big achievement – people have just taken a shine to her." He also said it was "a big shock to hear she was number one. It is tremendous." As of November 2008, the single has sold more than 250,000 copies worldwide.

http://youtu.be/NwYw1Lkj3wQ - Lava Ukulele Tutorial Lesson by 21 Songs in 6 Days: Learn Ukulele the Easy Way

“Lava” is a 2014 computer-animated musical short film, produced by Pixar Animation Studios. "Lava" was directed by James Ford Murphy and produced by Andrea Warren. It premiered at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival on June 14, 2014, and was theatrically released alongside Pixar's "Inside Out" on June 19, 2015.

The short film is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years. It is set to a song written by Murphy who says “Lava” was inspired by the "isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes."

The song to the short, also titled "Lava", was released on June 16, 2015, as a digital single and as a bonus track on the CD release of “Inside Out”’s soundtrack.

"To generate stories I think about things I can geek out over, things that really touch me," says director James Ford Murphy, who’s been at Pixar for 19 years. Murphy fell in love with Hawaii after visiting on honeymoon. "Hawaii really touches me. The geology, the people, the amount of music that has come out of this remote island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean -- it just blows me away," he says. "The fact that there are still active volcanoes in this place, the fact that there's a whole chain of islands that have sunk back into the sea... it just became this fascination."

Murphy learnt to play the ukulele and began writing a song, inspired by Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s serene version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, and pitched it to Pixar head John Lasseter -- musically."I was terrified, but I just went in and let rip," he says. "You’ve got to just throw yourself into it." Lasseter loved the pitch and green lit the project.

The decision to record a cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow was said to be a last-minute decision by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’ (Iz or Izzy) and his producer Jon de Mello. But what a great decision it was! Iz’s version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World” holds the distinction of being the longest-leading number one hit on any of the Billboard song charts, having spent 185 weeks at number one on the publication's World Digital Songs chart.

It reached #12 on Billboard's Hot Digital Tracks chart the week of January 31, 2004 (for the survey week ending January 18, 2004). It passed the 2 million paid downloads mark in the USA by September 27, 2009, and then sold 3 million in the USA as of October 2, 2011. And as of October 2014, the song has sold over 4.2 million digital copies.

On July 4, 2007, Kamakawiwoʻole debuted at No. 44 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart with "Wonderful World," selling 17,000 units.[21]
In April 2007, "Over the Rainbow" entered the UK charts at #68, and eventually climbed to #46, spending 10 weeks in the Top 100 over a 2-year period. In October 2010, following its use in a trailer for the TV channel VOX[22] and on a TV advertisement – for Axe deodorant (which is itself a revival of the advertisement originally aired in 2004) – it hit #1 on the German singles chart, was the number one seller single of 2010 and was eventually certified 2× Platinum in 2011.
As of November 1, 2010, "Over the Rainbow" peaked at No. 6 on the OE3 Austria charts, which largely reflect airplay on Austria's government-operated Top 40 radio network. It also peaked at No.1 in France and Switzerland in late December 2010.

Kamakawiwoʻole's recording of "Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World” first gained notice in 1999 when an excerpt was used in the TV commercials for eToys.com. The full song was featured in the movies K-Pax, Meet Joe Black, Finding Forrester, Son of the Mask, 50 First Dates, Fred Claus andIMAX: Hubble 3D. It was also featured on TV series like ER, American Dad!, Scrubs, Cold Case,Glee, South Pacific, LOST, Storm Chasers, and the UK original version of Life on Mars among others. And Iz’s rendition of "Over the Rainbow" is often used as bumper music on the overnight radio show Coast to Coast AM.

Because of his skillful ukulele playing and incorporation of other genres, such as jazz and reggae, Kamakawiwoʻole remains a very strong influence on Hawaiian music.

Throughout his life, Kamakawiwoʻole was morbidly obese and at one point weighed 757 pounds (343 kg; 54.1 st) standing 6-foot-2-inch m) tall (body mass index = 97.2). He endured several hospitalizations because of health problems caused by his weight. Beset with respiratory, heart, and other medical problems, he died at the age of 38 in Queen's Medical Center at 12:18 a.m. on June 26, 1997. Kamakawiwoʻole was survived by his wife, Marlene Kamakawiwoʻole, and their daughter, Ceslie-Ann "Wehi".

The Hawaii state flag flew at half-staff on July 10, 1997, the day of Kamakawiwoʻole's funeral. Hiskoa wood coffin lay in state at the state capitol building in Honolulu. He was the third person in Hawaiian history to be awarded this honor, and the only one who was not a government official. Approximately ten thousand people attended the funeral. Thousands of fans gathered as his ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean at Mākua Beach on July 12, 1997. Scenes from the funeral and scattering of Kamakawiwoʻole's ashes were featured in official music videos of "Over the Rainbow" released posthumously by Mountain Apple Company; as of July 2015, the two videos as featured on YouTube have collectively received over 198 million views.

Addams Family Ukulele by 21 Songs in 6 Days: Learn Ukulele the Easy Way

The theme for the TV series “The Addams Family” was written and arranged by longtime Hollywood composer Vic Mizzy. The song's arrangement was dominated by a harpsichord, and featured finger-snaps as percussive accompaniment. Actor Ted Cassidy, reprising his "Lurch" voice, punctuated the lyrics with words like "neat," "sweet," and "petite." Mizzy's theme was popular enough to enjoy a single release, though it failed to make the national charts.

The original theme appeared in the films The Addams Family, its sequel Addams Family Values and in the 1992 animated adaptation of the series used the theme as its theme song. An alternate version of the theme, with a slightly different melody, was used for the 1977 TV special Halloween with the New Addams Family, which reunited most of the original cast from the 1964-66 TV series.

An a cappella R&B cover of the theme was heard in Addams Family Reunion, performed by the Los Angeles-based Strate Vocalz. A music video was made and appeared on the film's VHS release, as well as promos for the then-upcoming Fox Family series The New Addams Family.

The song was briefly revived in 2007 for a series of Addams Family TV commercials for M&M's candies. The theme appears in The Addams Family musical and is included on the original cast recording.

For many years, the intro to the song has been a staple at sporting events across the Canada and the United States. It is used in basketball games with the fans yelling "DE-FENSE" instead of snapping their fingers; in hockey games the finger snaps are traditionally substituted with the opposing team's name, followed by a negative statement about the team.

A version of The Simpsons theme arranged in the style of The Addams Family theme was used as the closing music for the Simpsons episode "Treehouse of Horror IV", which was also played in the credits of "Treehouse of Horror XVIII."

All Through the Night is a Welsh folksong. The Welsh title is Ar Hyd y Nos. The song is highly popular with traditional Welsh male voice choirs, and is sung by them at festivals in Wales and around the world.
